This month's issue of Insights announces a new workshop I'm teaching with R Mac Holbert, the master printer at Nash Editions. Mac and I have discussed teaching together for some time now. When this opportunity suddenly presented itself we were excited to do it. It's sure to be a unique workshop experience unlike any other.
Three Techniques are highlighted. Two new - Preflight Checklist and Frame Loose, Don't Crop. One highlighted in last month's issue - High Pass Contrast. All are techniques Mac and I share. We do things very similarly. Sometimes we do things slightly differently. It's always fascinating to compare and contrast these things
.Also highlighted again from last month are the conversation Mac and I had for the current issue of Camera Arts magazine and the Review I posted of his new book - Nash Editions: Photography and the Art of Digital Printing.
Best wishes,
John Paul

Technique
Frame Loose, Don't Crop
Would you ever cut your film to crop? Consider using the Crop Tool only on derivatives files, not on your master file. When you build a master file, keep your options open for the future by indicating crop marks not eliminating pixels. Find out how in this PDF. (Mac and I do this in slightly different ways, but we agree 100% on the basic principle.)
